Take Short Breaks to Feel Better and Accomplish More

Take Short Breaks to Feel Better and Accomplish More

Do you get up and go-go-go until you fall into bed at night, or do you take short breaks throughout your day?

Years ago, I used to work non-stop from the time I opened my eyes in the morning until I closed them at night.

But I’ve learned that there’s a much better way to feel better, accomplish more tasks, and even have more free time!

The solution is to take short breaks throughout your day.

Our minds and bodies need reprieves from whatever stress our lives put on them.  We can’t avoid life’s stresses, but we can learn how to deal with them better.

And taking breaks is one way to deal with stress.

More importantly, it’s a proven way to prevent burnout.  If we push ourselves to the limit, eventually our minds and/or bodies will give up on us, and eventually force us into resting.

Have you ever pushed so hard that you ended up not being able to exercise, or you got a cold or other illness, or you just couldn’t think clearly?

Then, try starting to take short breaks throughout your day.

A short break can be as simple as stopping, closing your eyes, and taking slow deep breaths for one minute.

It can be standing up and going for a walk around the block for five minutes.

It can be playing a game of catch with a ball you have on your desk.

No matter what your short break includes, I promise that it will lighten your mood, calm your nervous system, and help get your mind and body ready to go back to work.

It will even sharpen your focus so that you get more done, in less time.  That means you’ll have more free time in your day, during which you can do whatever you like!  Who doesn’t want more time?

So, try it and let me know how it goes!  Does taking breaks help you feel any change in your mind and/or body?  Share in the comments below, how you feel during and after taking breaks, and what you do during your breaks!  I’d love to have a brainstorming session of ways that we can all relax and rejuvenate ourselves!

All my love and hugs,

Steph

Ps. If you know someone who could use a break, please pass this along to them…you may just give them a break!
